Where do I park?
There is public parking front, back and on both sides of the County Office building.
What are your hours of operation?
The office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Applications for marriage are only accepted between 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
How do I obtain a copy of my deed?
The Register of Deeds Office will provide a copy of your deed at $.25 per page. If you know the names of the grantors or grantees, the year purchased, and/or information to help us find the document, you may request it by mail.
Can anyone access the information contained in the Register of Deeds Office?
Yes, all information in our office is public record.
How do I transfer names on a deed?
You will need to draw up a new deed. You should see an attorney for this service unless you are familiar with drawing up legal documents.
Can you check for liens on my property?
No, Title research by Register of Deeds employees is prohibited by law.
How do I obtain a copy of the map to my property?
Our office will provide a copy of plat map for $2.00, if it has been recorded.
How do I obtain a copy of my marriage license?
You may request a copy by mail or in person. Copies are available upon return of the original marriage license. A certified copy is available for $10.00. You must show driver's license or picture ID to get a certified copy.
Can I obtain a copy of a birth certificate from your office?
The Rutherford County Register of Deeds office has birth certificates for Rutherford County only. The Vital Records department in Raleigh has records for the rest of the state of North Carolina and a copy of your birth certificate if you were adopted. Do I need an appointment to take my notary oath?
No appointment is necessary.
