The Rutherford Co. Sheriff’s Office. Forensic Division consist of two full-time Forensic Investigators, one part-time Crime Lab assistant and one Forensic Reservist. The primary duty of the Forensic Division is to process and collect evidence at major crime scenes inside Rutherford County and assisting other law enforcement departments with their forensic needs. Other duties include maintaining the evidence system, processing most evidence in the lab, sending evidence to the SBI for processing, presenting evidence in court and assisting the Detective Division in investigations.

Forensic Investigators are required to attend a wide assortment of forensic training classes offered by Isothermal Community College, The North Carolina Justice Academy, The American Academy of Applied Forensics, The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Institute and many others. Classes range from Basic Crime Scene Processing to more advance such as Blood Spatter Interpretation.
