The Crisis Intervention Program assists with heating or cooling emergencies for families with children or elderly or disabled adults who are experiencing a life-threatening or health-related crisis. Recipients must meet certain eligibility requirements including income limits, citizenship, and a crisis situation must exist. The household meets income eligibility if the total household’s members’ countable income is equal to or less than 150% of the current poverty. See chart below.

No appointment is necessary. Applications are accepted during regular business hours. Depending on the time of the year, usually during the winter months there could be a short wait before a worker is able to see you. Each county in North Carolina is given a specific allocation for each fiscal year, therefore funding is limited.
