Welcome to SWEEP!

Rutherford County's Solid Waste Environmental Education Panel

SWEEP believes that it is the moral and social obligation of each community member to manage their waste properly.  To help make this possible, SWEEP has spearheaded the recycling effort in Rutherford County, educating individuals on how and why to recycle and developing the infrastructure needed to support a large-scale recycling effort.

What We've Got for You...

There's a lot of information out there and we know it can be a bit to trudge through, so we've compiled some of the best resources for recycling in Rutherford County.  If you're a Rutherford County resident, learn how to start recycling or how to recycle more than just plastic and paper.  To make your recycling even easier, start thinking about waste reduction.

We also have a lot of great online resources available for you to browse on your own, as well as some handouts and brochures that can help you spread the word. If you're planning on hosting a public event any time soon, consider borrowing some recycling bins.

Recycling Starts Young

One of SWEEP's biggest projects recently has been working with Rutherford County Schools administration to develop a systemic school recycling program.  Now, every public school recycles paper, cardboard, cans and plastic and, with over 10,000 students enrolled, the program is diverting tons of waste from the landfill each week.  Visit the school recycling website.
