Elderly/Disabled Exclusion FAQ


Q: What qualifications do I have to meet in order to receive the elderly/disabled exclusion?

A: You must be at least 65 years of age on January 1st or totally and permanently disabled, have an *income for the preceding calendar year of not more than twenty five thousand ($25,000) and finally this must be your primary residence.

*Income means the owner's adjusted gross income as determined for federal income purposes, plus all ,monies received other than gifts or inheritances received from a spouse, lineal ancestor or lineal descendant.

Q: If I receive the elderly/disabled exclusion, does that mean I am exempt from paying any taxes?

A: No

Q: What are the benefits from receiving this exclusion?

A: We will exclude from taxation one half the value of the home or manufactured home, one half the value of the lot or one acre, and you will receive a discount on your solid waste fee.

Q: Do I have to reapply each year for the elderly/disabled exclusion?

A: No, you do not have to reapply for the exclusion each year. However, you are required to list all of your income on the listing form each year.
