For several decades Rutherford County Economic Development was a department of Rutherford County government with three full time staff and an advisory board of ten members, appointed by the Rutherford County Board of Commissioners.

In 2016 the Rutherford County Board of Commissioners authorized the creation of a 501(c)(3) and a 501(c)(6) nonprofit organization to enhance economic growth within our County.

Rutherford County Economic Development Corporation (RCEDC) the 501(c)(3) and Rutherford County Economic Development Association (RCEDA) the 501(c)(6) each received official designation of tax exempt status by the IRS. As of July 1, 2017 Rutherford County Economic Development now functions as a public-private entity.

Mission Statement: It is the mission of the Rutherford County Economic Development to promote and market Rutherford County to the world; creating, retaining, and reinvesting dollars to provide a better quality of life for the residents.
