POSITION AVAILABLE:   Rutherford County has part time (floater) convenience center position available.  Responsible for operation and maintenance of convenience centers.  Assists in disposal of residential waste and in collection of recyclables.   Keeps convenience center and container roll off areas clean.  Helps general public with questions and concerns.  Min Requirements: High School Diploma, able to lift 50 lbs, tact and courtesy in dealing with customers.   Exposure to outdoors, dust and odors.  Wages: $10.37 per hour.  Position fills in at sites as needed (19 hours or less per week).  Sites open 6 am to 7 pm Monday-Friday and 8 am to 7 pm on Saturday.  Apply Rutherford County Human Resources Dept, 289 N. Rutherford County Solid Waste Department has a Mechanic position available.  This position is responsible for repairing and maintaining a variety of vehicles and equipment.  At the Direction of the Solid Waste Supervisor, conducts scheduled preventive maintenance functions, tune ups, checking lights, tires, brake linings, wiper blades, horns, suspension, diagnoses, repairs, and overhauls brakes, ignition and fuel systems, air conditioning, transmissions, hydraulic systems, and differentials. Operates equipment such as lift jacks and air guns.  Performs safety inspections.  Prepares daily work reports and inventory control and other duties as assigned.  Minimum Qualifications:  Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field, sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with completion of an apprenticeship or one to two years experience. Must possess clean NC Driver’s license and optional CDL. May be exposed to DOCC inmates during the course of the day and may need to pick up or take back to DOCC facility.  Hours Mon-Fri 8:00 am -4:30 pm, Saturday rotations. Rutherford County has a full time Real Property Appraiser I position available. Reports to the Revenue Director.  Position appraises residential dwellings and commercial buildings according to code, studies building plans and information pertaining to sales, prepares field cards, appraises lots in subdivisions or other land splits, determines market value, uses a variety of Tax Office records to obtain data concerning location, owner and dimensions of property, reviews appraisals and determines whether or not assessment should be modified, defends values and makes recommendations to the Board of Equalization and Review, resolves new construction and land value complaints, assists taxpayers in correcting records of real property listing, and other duties as assigned:  Graduation from high school with Bachelors preferred in field of study, sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of position including understanding of three approaches to value regarding cost, sales comparison, and income, Certification as a Tax Appraiser by the Ad Valorem Tax Division of the NC Department of Revenue and certification by the NC Association of Assessing required within 2 - 3 years of employment. Rutherford County is seeking to fill the position of Department of Social Services (DSS) Director.  Rutherford County has a population of approximately 67,000.  The Agency has an annual budget of $4.9M and there are 145 employees. The Social Services Director is responsible for administering State and Federal Social Services Programs established by Chapter 108A of the North Carolina General Statutes in accordance with applicable federal and state rules.  The Director directs other managers/supervisors, professional, paraprofessional, and support staff in the delivery of Agency services and provides leadership and direction for program development, establishing program standards and monitoring, and evaluating quality of service delivery systems.  The Director supervises budget activities and may maintain direct involvement in conflict/complaint resolution, staffing and personnel issues, and serve as the principle spokesperson for the Agency relative to program issues.  Work also involves working closely with the County Manager, County Commissioners, and other human services agencies in the County, and serving on numerous community boards.  This position is appointed by, and reports directly to, a local Board of Social Services, and indirectly to the County Manager.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  Thorough knowledge of the legal and philosophical basis for public welfare programs. Considerable knowledge of principles and practice of social work. A master’s degree in social work and two years of supervisory experience in the delivery of client services; or a bachelor’s degree in social work and three years of supervisory experience in the delivery of client services, one of which must have been in Social Services; or graduation from a four year college or university and three years of supervisory experience in the delivery of client services, two of which must have been in Social Services; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

 POSITION AVAILABLE –Part time van driver for Rutherford County Transit Department.  Position requires ability to drive a Multi passenger vehicle.  Must also assist elderly and/or handicapped adults to board and leave the vehicle, must be able to load, secure and unload persons in wheelchairs on lift equipped vehicle.  Must be able to operate an open air radio to maintain radio contact.   Requires frequent contact with the public, courtesy, and tact. Requires knowledge of county and regional geography.  Reports to the Operations Manager. Hours are based on need up to 19 hrs/week, possibility hours will increase to 29. EMT-Paramedic Full Time Position

Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services is currently accepting applications for EMT-Paramedic full time positions. Rutherford County, located in Western North Carolina consists of 564 square miles and an annual population of 64,000.  Annual call volume averages 13,000 per year including the convalescent division.   RCEMS operates (5) EMT-P level 911 trucks from (4) bases in the County and (4) EMT-P level convalescent trucks from (1) base. The 911 trucks work a 24/48 schedule and the convalescent trucks work a sliding schedule based on need of trucks.  Salary Range is $40,000-$45,000 include overtime.  All applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent; hold a valid driver’s license and current EMT-P credential with NCOEMS in good standing.  Individuals not holding credentials from another state and/or National Registry must meet requirement of legal recognition by the NC Office of EMS.   ALS candidates must possess BLS, ACLS, PALS/PEPP & PHTLS/ITLS/ATT.  All candidates must possess or obtain NIMS/ICS 100, 200, 700, 800 prior to employment.  Candidates are required to submit to pre-employment drug screening, motor vehicle record check and background checks. Rutherford County Sheriff's 911 Communications is seeking to fill a Full Time – Night Shift Telecommunicator position.  Hours are 6pm – 6am following an altered-pitman schedule.  NO PHONE CALLS PLEASE. 
EXPERIENCE is desired but the right candidate will be trained. Position is supervised by the Communications Director. Work involves operating a computerized work station while answering emergency and non-emergency calls. Work requires the ability to multi-task and function in high stress situations while remaining calm, having patience with callers who are under stress, frightened or angry. Position involves call taking and dispatch for Law Enforcement, Medical Personnel and Firefighters. Telecommunicators work in a confined area with constant exposure to radio traffic, ringing telephones, and conversations occurring simultaneously.
Minimum requirements: must be 18 years of age, High School Diploma, proficient in computer keyboarding, must be able to pass an onsite aptitude test and a hearing assessment.  Those experienced with call handing are strongly encouraged to apply.   Potential applicants must also pass a drug test and background check. Hours will be scheduled weekday evenings, weekend nights, and/or holidays.

Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office is seeking full-time detention officers.  Duties include direct supervision, processing, classification, transporting and safety of inmates.  Applicants must have good communication skills, be at least 21 years of age, possess a high school diploma, and be able to pass a drug test and an extensive criminal background check.  Applicant must meet Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office requirements and be eligible for certification by NC Sheriff’s Training and Standards Commission.  Work schedule-rotating 12 hour shifts.  Salary $35,129 with full benefit package which includes health/dental insurance, State retirement and 401k.
