POSITION AVAILABLE –Rutherford County has a Deputy Fire Marshal/Emergency Management Coordinator position available. Performs administrative advisory liaison and training work in coordinating the various activities of County volunteer fire departments and supports the work of the Fire Marshal/ EM Coordinator in departmental job functions.  Position is responsible for directing safety program in the county.  Work involves assisting fire departments in developing and implementing comprehensive training programs, obtaining necessary ratings, and preparing the annual budgets.  Employee is also responsible for liaison activities with the Fire Service Advisory Council and other fire service groups including fire investigations, mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery efforts as related to all hazard approach.
Min req:  Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the field of work. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid NC driver’s license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. FF1Certification by NC Fire Commission. 6-9 years of experience in firefighting. AAS in Fire Science or Emergency Management preferred.  Certification as a law enforcement officer in accordance with the North Carolina Sheriff’s Training and Standards Commission.  Certification as a Fire Investigator in accordance with the North Carolina Department of Insurance.

POSITION AVAILABLE –Rutherford County has a full time Animal Control Operations Attendant position available. Reports to the Animal Control Operations Supervisor.  Position is responsible to respond to grievances and complaints regarding stray, nuisance, or rabid animals including the capture and containment of such animals. Position performs routine cleaning and animal care in support of the operations of the Animal Control Facility including uploading pictures of adoptable/lost pets, maintains records, reports and paperwork, answers telephone and greets visitors.  Candidate must be able to lift 50 lbs or more. Candidate must be able to tactfully deal with the public.  Candidate will work with inmates from the Department of Corrections on a regular basis and must be 21 years or older.  Min req:  Graduation from high school with experience in animal control and care.  Candidate must have or be readily available to obtain a rabies vaccination certification and a certification in animal euthanasia. Candidate must possess strong computer skills and possess a Valid NC driver’s license with a clean driving record. Candidate must be familiar with County geography. Rutherford County has a part time Data Entry Clerk position at the Senior Center available. Position is responsible for maintaining information on computer systems and answering incoming calls to Senior Center as backup to front desk when necessary. Position is responsible for entering client information into different data bases under time restraints.  Must be a self-starter and have the ability to work under pressure and meet monthly deadlines, excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to multi-task, and have excellent attention to details. Accuracy a must. May be required to register and/or update clients when Site Manager is unavailable. Rutherford County Solid Waste Department has a Mechanic position available.  This position is responsible for repairing and maintaining a variety of vehicles and equipment.  At the Direction of the Solid Waste Supervisor, conducts scheduled preventive maintenance functions, tune ups, checking lights, tires, brake linings, wiper blades, horns, suspension, diagnoses, repairs, and overhauls brakes, ignition and fuel systems, transmissions, hydraulic systems, and differentials. Operates equipment such as lift jacks and air guns.  Performs safety inspections.  Prepares daily work reports and inventory control and other duties as assigned.  Minimum Qualifications:  Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field, sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with completion of an apprenticeship or one to two years experience.  Must possess clean NC Driver’s license and optional CDL.  Hours Mon-Fri 8:00 am -4:30 pm, Saturday rotations.  Salary $33,251 plus benefits.  Apply at Rutherford County 289 N.  POSITION AVAILABLE –Part time van driver for Rutherford County Transit Department.  Position requires ability to drive a Multi passenger vehicle.  Must also assist elderly and/or handicapped adults to board and leave the vehicle, must be able to load, secure and unload persons in wheelchairs on lift equipped vehicle.  Must be able to operate an open air radio to maintain radio contact.   Requires frequent contact with the public, courtesy, and tact. Requires knowledge of county and regional geography.  Reports to the Operations Manager. Hours are based on need up to 19 hrs/week, possibility hours will increase to 29. Transit operates from approx 6 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday, wages are $10.10 per hour.  Minimum requirements: valid N.C. driver’s license, excellent driving record, five years experience as a licensed driver, graduation from high school, pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing required.  CDL preferred.  Apply Rutherford County Human Resources Department, 289 N. EMT-Paramedic Full Time Position

Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services is currently accepting applications for EMT-Paramedic full time positions. Rutherford County, located in Western North Carolina consists of 564 square miles and an annual population of 64,000.  Annual call volume averages 13,000 per year including the convalescent division.   RCEMS operates (5) EMT-P level 911 trucks from (4) bases in the County and (4) EMT-P level convalescent trucks from (1) base. The 911 trucks work a 24/48 schedule and the convalescent trucks work a sliding schedule based on need of trucks.  Salary Range is $40,000-$45,000 include overtime.  All applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent; hold a valid driver’s license and current EMT-P credential with NCOEMS in good standing.  Individuals not holding credentials from another state and/or National Registry must meet requirement of legal recognition by the NC Office of EMS.   ALS candidates must possess BLS, ACLS, PALS/PEPP & PHTLS/ITLS/ATT.  All candidates must possess or obtain NIMS/ICS 100, 200, 700, 800 prior to employment.  Candidates are required to submit to pre-employment drug screening, motor vehicle record check and background checks. Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office is seeking part time detention officers for the Rutherford County Detention Center.  Duties include direct supervision, processing, classification, transporting and safety of inmates.  Applicants must have good communication skills, be 21 years of age, have a high school diploma, pass drug test and pass an extensive criminal background check.
