Death Certificates

We have death certificates for individuals who died in Rutherford County. Our death records start with
the year 1913 and go through the present.

The following individuals can obtain a certified copy: spouse, father, mother, grandparent, step-parent, brother, sister, child, stepchild, grandchild, great grandparent, great grandchild, authorized agent, attorney and legal representative. You must show driver's license or picture identification to obtain a certified copy.

PLEASE NOTE THE MAXIMUM QUANTITY ALLOWED PER ORDER IS 6.  IF THE QUANTITY IS MORE THAN 6, SUBMIT AN ADDITIONAL ORDER.  

You may obtain a certified copy of a death certificate through the mail by submitting a letter to the Register of Deeds or completing the application provided here:

The fee is $10.00 check or money order made payable to Register of Deeds. You may provide a self-addressed stamped envelope for the return of the death certificate or it will be mailed to the address you provide on your request.

Anyone can obtain a photocopy of a vital record through the mail and the cost is $1.00.
