Q: I started a new business in Rutherford County. When and where do I need to list?
All listing must be done between January 2nd and postmarked by the post office no later than January 31st. You may come by our office which is located in the Rutherford County Courthouse at 125 W 3rd Street, Rutherfordton, NC 28139 or call (828)287-6184 for more details.

IF FILING ELECTRONICALLY, FORMS MUST BE SUBMITTED VIA THIS WEBSITE. FORMS SUBMITTED BY FAX OR EMAIL WILL BE REJECTED. REQUEST FOR EXTENSION TO LIST UNTIL APRIL 15TH WILL BE ACCEPTED VIA WEBSITE ALSO. BUSINESS PERSONAL PROPERTY LISTING FORMS OR EXTENSION REQUEST MUST BE RECEIVED NO LATER THAN JANUARY 31, 2020 IN PAPER FORM BY MAIL OR IN PERSON OR SUBMITTED ELECTRONICALLY TO AVOID 10% PENALTY.
May I get an extension to list my business personal property?
Yes. You will need to send a letter postmarked by January 31st requesting an extension to file your listing. To receive a confirmation of the extension, send the letter in duplicate with a stamped, self-addressed return envelope. Extensions will be granted until April 15.
